Auto Seizures

Written by Jason Isaacson on November 20, 2010 – 10:29 am

Automobiles are seized by the Government or Police through the help of confiscation laws. An automobile that is driven rashly by a drunk driver or is involved in an accident, is seized by Police or Government along with the license of the owner. Also, the non- payment of taxes on a vehicle is a major reason for seizure.

Auto seizures refer to the seizing of thousands of automobiles by Police and the Government every year. These automobiles are presented at auctions and sold to the highest bidder. A seizure conducted by Police is termed Police seizures, those conducted by the Government are public seizures. If your fault is minor, you can release your automobile by paying the required money to the authorities.

Due to the constant influx of goods, the Police and Government try to sell them as early as possible. Often auctions are in Police Departments. This is advantageous for the buyer as he can choose the vehicle he prefers. As well, the price of the automobile paid by the bidder is usually a fraction of the actual market price.

Don’t leave your automobile in restricted and/or prohibited areas as it may be seized by the Police and presented for auction. Simply parking your car in “No parking” areas can lead to auto seizure.

The police can seize any type of automobile motorcycles, private cars, public buses, hired cars, boats and ships etc. Be careful when you are out on the road to avoid such auto seizures.
